SHREVEPORT, La. – The registration process is underway for the public to sign up Shreveport’s Universal Basic Income Program (UBI).
The pilot program is a joint effort between the city, Caddo Parish, and the United Way of Northwest Louisiana. Those who are interested can register at www.shreveportla.gov through January 17th.
There will be 110 families selected and eligible for $660 a month for a year. Shreveport residents are single parents income below 120% of the Federal Poverty Level will be eligible. The program identifies a single parent as the mother, father, stepparent, grandparent, carer or legal guardian of a school-age child. Residents must be functionally single, whether married or unmarried. If unmarried, residents cannot live with a partner.

Perkins participated Mayor for guaranteed income in 2020. Shreveport City Council passed a resolution to receive $500,000 from MGI for the program. The Caddo Parish Committee approved an appropriation of $432,000 for matching funds.
The United Way Financial Empowerment Center will accept walks from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday for those who need help filling out an application. .
The only day they won’t be available is January 17.
Live support will also be available from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday at the Airport Park Recreation Center and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday at the David Raines Recreation Center.
