According to Gamal Roshdy, a spokesman for the Secretary-General of the Arab League, the foreign ministers will hold a separate meeting on Sunday to address the conflict that broke out in Sudan last month.

Syria’s membership in the Arab League was suspended in 2011 after a bloody crackdown on street protests against Assad led to a devastating civil war, and many Arab countries withdrew their envoys from Damascus.

Recently, several Arab countries including Saudi Arabia and Egypt have resumed relations with Syria during high-level visits and meetings, although some countries, including Qatar, remain opposed to the move. complete normalization without a political solution to the conflict in Syria.

Arab states are trying to reach a consensus on whether to invite Assad to the May 19 Arab League summit in Riyadh to discuss the pace of normalization of relations and terms on which Syria may be allowed to return.

Saudi Arabia has long opposed restoring ties with Assad, but after the recent resumption of ties with Iran – Syria’s key regional ally – said a new approach was needed.
