Tottenham have completed the loan signing of Villarreal striker Arnaut Danjuma – just days after he nearly joined Everton.
Sky Sports News reported on Monday that Danjuma will join a manager-free Everton on Tuesday. The move is still expected to take place despite the sacking of Frank Lampard, who played a key role in the deal.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, the Dutch international unexpectedly traveled to London to negotiate with Spurs, and the 25-year-old has now completed a move to Antonio Conte’s side.
The deal for Danjuma is an initial loan for the rest of the season but a purchase option could be discussed at the end of the campaign.
Danjuma will be able to play in the Champions League. Spurs face AC Milan in the round of 16, the first of two matches taking place on February 14.
Danjuma has decided to join Everton despite more attractive offers and interest elsewhere. He is aware of the challenge the club face in the Premier League amid the chaos off the pitch but wants to try his hand and take the risk.
However, the timing of Lampard’s dismissal and uncertainty over his replacement made Danjuma’s decision to forgo a move to Goodison Park easier.
The deal with Everton is considered a straight loan until the end of the season with no option or obligation to buy back.
Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest are also keen to sign Danjuma after Villarreal allowed him to speak to clubs attracting further interest.
Who will move this winter? January transfer window closes at 11 pm above Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
