Arsenal-Chelsea women’s clash sees Canadians prepare

LONDON –

Chelsea came back to draw 1-1 with Arsenal thanks to a late Sam Kerr goal on Sunday in the top of the table in England’s Barclays Super League that saw three Canadians dress up.

Defender Kadeisha Buchanan and midfielder Jessie Fleming start for Chelsea while newly signed goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo sits on the bench for Arsenal.

Kerr saved a point for Chelsea with an 89th-minute goal after Kim Little gave the Gunners the lead from the penalty spot in the 57th minute.

The penalty was taken after defender Niamh Charles allegedly pushed Arsenal’s Caitlin Foord off the field. Chelsea unsuccessfully argued that the foul occurred outside the box.

Kerr ended the game with a header from close range that tore through Arsenal’s defense to catch a precise pass from Jelena Cankovic, scoring her 11th goal of the season in front of a 46,811 audience announced at the Emirates Stadium . The Australian star now has 72 goals for Chelsea in 95 games in his career,

Chelsea (9-1-1) remains at the top of the standings with a draw. Arsenal (8-1-1) have regained three points but still have a game in hand.
