NEW DELHI: The flooding situation in northeastern India continued to worsen on Tuesday, with heavy rainfall and mudslide affect life in Assam, areas of Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur. Assam is reeling in floods with more than two thousand people in 20 districts affected so far. Two flood-related deaths have been reported, while another five have died from landslides during the current flood.
The incessant rain caused landslides and washed away roads and train tracks in many locations in the northeastern states of the country, thus severing connections.

Landslides at different locations in Assam’s Dima Hasao district disrupted roads as well as railway connections. In MeghalayaLandslides in the East Jaintia Hills district have cut off road access to the Barak Valley in southern Assam and key areas of the three northeastern states.
East Jaintia Hills Police has alerted to new landslides under its jurisdiction.
Rain leads to caves in the road and waterlogging
An official news release said that communication channels had been cut off in Dima Hasao since Sunday due to heavy rain. Landslides and caves in different locations have resulted in the disruption of road traffic to the district.
A spokesman for Northeastern Border Railway said landslides and flooding on the tracks in the Lumding – Badarpur section had affected train communications to the Barak Valley, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram.
He added that work to restore the railway was ongoing during the war.
Grade 11 exams suspended in Assam
