BAGHPAT / DEHRADUN: More than 70% of families are in Bawli village, about 62 km from Delhi in Baraut, Baghpat . District, has at least one member serving in the armed forces. Every morning, young people run along the canal, on small plots of land, even on the roads, with just one dream – to Army uniform. Although many are still there, the numbers have dwindled. They say they are frustrated by the Center’s Agnipath plan.
As large swaths of India continue to be engulfed in violent protests against the new short-term recruitment program, young men are still preparing for the Army, running hard, lifting weights and carrying burdens. hopefully, often entire villages, at various training grounds in places like Baghpat in UP and Dehradun in Uttarakhand, a popular “hot bed” for soldiers, said they felt “disappointed”.
Vivek Tomar of Bawli said, “It seems they have taken the soul of this village. Hundreds of us have been training here in the hopes that one day the recruiting will take place and some of us will make it through. That we would be treated like people at home. But who cares about a machine that comes back after four years for nothing? ”
Hours away from Baghpat, on the outskirts of Dehradun, young men joining the Army say their morale is going downhill. In the past few days, the training ground has decreased significantly in number. Some were deserted on Saturday.
Anuj Shah, 19, from Tehri Garhwal, told TOI, “See this ground? I used to do five sets. Now I can barely do three. No motivation. Some of my friends have returned to their villages”.
