According to local media, the brakes on the bus, which was headed to a local religious temple in the state of Mexico, failed. State authorities did not disclose the possible cause of the crash.
Assistant Interior Minister Ricardo de la Cruz Musalem said that the injured had been transported to hospitals, including some by air.
The state Red Cross said 10 ambulances had rushed to the area.
