“Audacious” Zombie Army 4: Dead War Switch Port has become a “nightmare” for rebellion
Switch port for Zombie Army 4: Deadly War is on track to release on April 26, but that doesn’t mean the process of getting the game onto Nintendo’s consoles has been particularly easy for developer Rebellion.
In conversation with GamesIndustryBiz (thanks, GoNintendo!), studio head Arden Aspinall stated that the game would be the “boldest port” of the team, but stressed that bringing it to the Switch proved particularly difficult due to the console’s limited memory:
“The first thing was to make it cross-platform: I mean, it’s a huge game, It’s maxed out on anything on PS4 and Xbox, so with less than 3″ accessible memory our ,5 gigabytes, get that in memory [was] a nightmare.”
The team will quickly notice performance issues as a result of this:
“That’s when we started to realize how much trouble we had with the performance, because we would go in and see the framerate drop.”
Since the game was developed concurrently with the PS4 and Xbox One versions, the team also needed to roll out any available updates to the Switch version while also looking at those that haven’t hit the market yet.
The team behind the port has previously worked on Sniper Elite 4, so here’s hoping Rebellion’s work will result in a good experience for Switch owners. Will you pick up Zombie Army 4: Dead War on April 26? Let us know below.
