Audi heralds factory-backed Formula 1 entry

We already knew Audi would head to Formula 1. Now, we know it could be a factory-assisted run.

The German carmaker has posted a shadow teaser image on its social media pages, revealing the rear wing of the car looks like a Formula 1 car, complete with the F1 logo on the interior plate its.

Images of an Audi Formula 1 car in the pit lane at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa are also going viral on Twitter.

Expect to know more about Audi’s entry in the upcoming race. Based on the trailer and on the car taken in Belgium, the brand looks set to have a factory-made entry rather than just acting as an engine supplier to another team.

Group CEO Herbert Diess earlier this year confirmed both Audi and Porsche will join the grid in some form for the 2026 season.

Mr Diess confirmed Audi is looking for a partner, but recent media reports have linked it to the McLaren Group. Along with Formula 1 activity, reports have linked Audi to McLaren road car activity.

It is also tied to Williams, which was recently acquired from the Williams family by investment firm Dorilton Capital, and whose sauber team is currently backed by Alfa Romeo.

Mr Diess points out that the new regulations will come into effect in 2026 for motorists, along with a larger push by this category into synthetic fuels. F1’s growth in markets like the US and China is also a factor.
