Audi RS Q E-Tron E2 lighter, sleeker, ready for Dakar

One year after debut series-hybrid RS Q E-Tron, Audi has a completely redesigned model ready for raid rally events. Part of the redesign was to meet the new regulations, but most of the changes were to improve performance and efficiency. All are called RS Q E-Tron E2, similar to the last Audi Sport Quattro belonging to the B group with the S2 suffix.

Design is the most obvious area that has changed, and Audi notes that every exterior dashboard is new. It’s slightly longer and wider, and the cabin is a bit wider, too. These are mainly due to the new regulations. But the body part has 15% less drag than the old part. Much of this is due to the underside of the car, now narrowing at the front and rear between the wheels. In addition, while existing regulations require a 100 kg higher minimum weight, the E2 is lighter than its predecessor, as it is even heavier than the new minimum weight. Audi notes that the bodywork is also designed to have more panels that are easier to remove for maintenance and wheels that are easier to maneuver.

Audi doesn’t give out power specs, but the powertrain is a similar setup to the old RS Q E-Tron. It has a gas engine for a generator, a high voltage the batteryand a pair of electric motors drive the wheels. Audi has tweaked its energy management system and has worked on efficiency. It has a new air conditioning system that runs intermittently to save power as well as to prevent the problem the team has had of freezing. coolant. And the more aerodynamic body also improves efficiency.

Off-road vehicles will compete in the Morocco Race 2022 and 2023 Dakar Rally.
