Audi working on rugged electric off-roader – report

After the reveal of its off-road capabilities Operation concept, audio is said to be working on a rugged electric off-roader that will compete with what’s coming Mercedes-Benz EQG and Land Rover Defender EV.

According to the report of carThis Audi SUV has yet to be approved for production but it could debut in 2027 as part of an effort to break into new segments.

Audi designer Marc Lichte told the British publication that he thinks “there is room” for a solid SUV in Audi’s passenger car line-up.

“There is potential because there are only two advanced players [in this segment],” Mr. Lichte referred to Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover.

“I think there’s room for a third.”

car This rugged SUV is reported as a separate project from the production version of the high-riding Activesphere concept.

This new all-electric all-terrain vehicle from Audi is said to not be based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture co-developed by Audi and Porsche, nor Ford Ranger and Volkswagen AmarokT6’s platform.

Mr. Lichte would not reveal specifics, but said it would run on a platform taken from elsewhere in the Volkswagen Group’s portfolio.

Since the Volkswagen Group’s upcoming MEB replacement SSP platform is said to have been delayed until 2028, one option Audi could consider is Scout’s upcoming “new technical platform concept”.

Volkswagen has owned scout name in 2021 when its Traton truck division acquires Navistar, the parent company of International Harvester, which built Jeep-style SUVs and SUVs between 1961 and 1980.

The first member of the Scout series, an electric ute, is expected to be included manufactured in 2026. An SUV version is also planned.

As previously reported, sources said car Volkswagen is negotiating with Foxconn – the most famous contract manufacturer for Apple production – for the production of the Scout product line.

The German trade publication also said Volkswagen is also in discussions with Magna-Steyr, which makes cars like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Fisker Ocean and Jaguar I-Pace at the factory in Graz, Austria.

It’s possible that this all-electric all-terrain vehicle from Audi could be built in the same place as the upcoming Scout line-up.

This Audi off-roader isn’t the only electric model the German company is said to be developing.

Mr. Lichte said automatically express Audi will launch 20 new electric vehicles (EVs) by 2026.

On the other hand, this publication reports that this electric crossover will be based on the Activesphere concept.

“We are working on electric vehicles and their successors to ICE models,” said Mr. Lichte.

“We are about to see the biggest product launch in Audi history with more than 20 vehicles over the next two and a half years.”

“That’s why we’re focusing on cars like the Activesphere concept, which is our last show car for the next few years so we can focus on mass production,” he said. Lichte added.

As previously reported, Audi is preparing to go fully electric by 2033 in all markets except China.
