Aurora park shooting: 15-year-old has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting near a Colorado school that injured six teenagers, police say
The victims were a 14-year-old male student, a 15-year-old female student, a 16-year-old male student, a 16-year-old female student, a 17-year-old male student and an 18-year-old male student. , the police said.
Police Chief Vanessa Wilson last week said investigators had found shell casings from different caliber firearms and witnesses said there were multiple suspicious vehicles.
“My understanding is that it was a drive-by shooting, as well as possibly pedestrians,” Wilson said.
Two vehicles, a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Chrysler 300, involved in the shooting have been identified, police said Tuesday.
“A 15-year-old male has been identified as the driver of the Chrysler 300,” the police statement said.
Police said at least two other people inside Nome Park returned fire to the vehicles.
“Detectives are actively working to identify those people, as well as all others involved,” the statement said.
School resource officer responds to shooting
After gunfire broke out, school personnel from a nearby high school applied tourniquets to two victims, one of whom had surgery, police said last week.
The city of Aurora’s website says Nome Park is 0.8-acre, featuring a playground and community garden.
“It’s sad to see young people just throwing away their lives for nothing,” said Henry Martinez. “I’m sad about that. …Sounds like 30-50 shots. It’s hard to count with them coming so quickly, but at least 30.”
