Formula 1’s second Sprint weekend comes as the Austrian Grand Prix marks F1’s return to Europe, following a trip to Montreal, where Red Bull recorded their 100th win.
Max Verstappen led from start to finish to take his sixth win of the season and extend his lead in the drivers’ championship to 69 points over Sergio Pérez.
Perez can only recover in sixth place after a disappointing qualifying round and will need to start moving into his title-short run to have a chance at winning the title.
Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton had a long, tense battle for second place in Montreal, with the Aston Martin driver taking the lead.
Behind their former teammates, Ferrari has shown excellent racing speed and will be buoyed by Charles Leclerc’s victory 12 months ago at Spielberg, their last in F1.
Austria will host a second Sprint over the weekend, so Qualifying for the Grand Prix will take place on Friday, with Sprint and Sprint penalty shootouts on Saturday, ahead of the Austrian GP on Sunday from 2pm.
Every session from the Red Bull Ring is streamed live on Sky Sports F1, with news of F2 and F3 events also taking place throughout the weekend.
Qualifiers begin at 4pm on Friday, with cumulative time from 3:30pm.
Sprint Shootout begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, with cumulative times from 10:30 a.m.
The Sprint Race starts at 3:30pm on Saturday, with accumulative time from 2:30pm
Preparations for Sunday’s Grand Prix begin at 12:30 p.m. before the lights go out at 2 p.m.
