Baker Mayfield undergoes shoulder surgery, begins road to recovery and ‘the real me’

The road to recovery for Baker Mayfield begins.

The Browns quarterback took to social media in a sling on Wednesday to announce the successful surgery performed to repair a tear in his non-throwing shoulder.

“The surgery went great,” Mayfield said to her left shoulder in a sling. “It was a complete success. There is a great medical team. They took good care of me.”

The surgery was performed in California by Dr. Orr Limpisvasti, an orthopedic surgeon for the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks.

How long does Baker Mayfield have to go out?

It can take four to six months for Mayfield to recover. He will begin physical therapy on his shoulder next week and is expected to be able to pitch in April. Mayfield is expected to be cleared by training camp.

When did Mayfield get injured?

Mayfield suffered a shoulder injury in Week 2, but played through it for the rest of the season, appearing in 14 of the Browns’ 17 games. Mayfield threw 3,010 yards and 17 TDs against 13 INTs and completed 60.5% of his passes this season. In a tumultuous season, including a reported internal conflict between Mayfield and head coach Kevin Stefanski, the Browns QB ended the season with fourth-lowest touchdown passes, third-lowest passing pitch. and ranked fourth for fourth interceptions.

But with the surgery, Mayfeild says he’s ready to “get back to the real me.”

Drama, Drama, Drama

The past year has not been easy,” Mayfield said Wednesday. “A lot of things have gone downhill. It was not easy for me and my family. “

In a year where Mayfield needed to prove he was the QB of the future for the Browns, the drama surrounding him (and his wife) was well-documented. After the 13-10 win over the Detroit Lions, Baker’s wife Emily took to Instagram, writing, “”Nobody better say anything bad about @bakermayfield after this game. I don’t think I’ve seen toughness like this in a while. Maybe the rest of our team should take the hint and get tougher.” Baker was 15 of 29 for 176 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions in that game with a QBR of 8.6.

Things took a turn for the worse when Mayfield expressed displeasure with head coach Kevin Stefanski’s game plan after the Browns lost to the Steelers.

However, despite reports of tension between QB and the head coach, things turned tense when Mayfield refuted a report claiming he would be looking for a deal.

The road to recovery

Despite the drama, Mayfield, who often plays with a chip on his shoulder, seems focused on using this year as momentum on his road to recovery.

“It will not be an easy thing,” he said, “But it will be something that I will remember and it will be something special.

“This is not the end of my story. It was just one of those little things that I would look back on and remember as one of the challenges and difficulties that I would take advantage of. “

Mayfield, who turns 27 in April, plans to make $18 million next season in the final year of his contract.
