Bald eagle found locked in battle, rescued in Maine


Two bald eagles have been rescued after entangled in each other in Cape Elizabeth. South Portland Animal Control Officer Corey Hamilton was called this week after someone walking in the woods spotted eagles mingling on the ground. South Portland police had a tight grip on each other and wouldn’t let go. : “Moral of the story: Learn to be polite to your neighbors because being too stubborn can put your photo on the South Portland Police Department’s Facebook page.” As of 2018, there were 734 pairs of bald eagles nesting in Maine. In 1972, before conservation efforts began, that number had dropped to just 29.

Hamilton says the eagles can have a “neighborhood disagreement,” holding onto each other and refusing to let go.

He was able to help the eagles untangle and they flew in opposite directions, obviously no worse for wear.

South Portland Police added the following advice to their Facebook page: “Moral of the story: Learn to civilly communicate with your neighbor because being too stubborn could put your photo on the Police Department’s Facebook page. close to South Portland.”
