Balenciaga’s trash bag inspires social media reactions
BalenciagaThe Fall 2022 collection has hit the headlines in a variety of ways. Take Balenciaga’s carefully curated catsuit, for example. Kim Kardashian sitting in the front row at the show in lookwhich she could barely get in. Then she had to be completely cut off from the cat clothes. Lizzo afterward try to dance on the set of an Elle UK cover in the same outfit but only possible with a robot due to movement restrictions. Now, the Balenciaga garbage bag makes people equally bewildered.
In March, Kardashian posted a gift from creative director Demna Gvasalia on her Instagram Stories: a black bag that looks like a trash bag, which Kardashian calls “a garbage bag”. Now, this design is officially available for purchase – at a price as “huge” as the brand that popularized the original plastic trash bag. . . you know, the one used to take out the trash.
After the fall of 2022 in March, Gvasalia said WWD: “I can’t miss an opportunity to make the most expensive trash bag in the world, because who doesn’t love a fashion scandal?”
Although the bag is not currently available for online shopping, High Snobiety shared a photo from the shop on Instagram, writing, “This Balenciaga trash bag costs $1790.” The publication also revealed that the expensive “trash bag” comes in three colors: black with a black tie, blue with a black tie and white with a red tie, each made of calfskin. “Balenciaga is a meme designer,” one person commented. “I have 40 of them under my sink,” another commented.
A controversial design that isn’t exactly unusual for a designer house during Gvasalia’s reign. After all, it didn’t just create the aforementioned carefully tapered cat supplies, but also created high heel sneakers completely miserable, branded leather bags, Croc-style loafersand more.
Balenciaga’s “Trash Pouch” is clearly just another attempt by the brand to create a viral moment. And maybe like scratching my head, it’s clearly working.
