Barges in Vancouver: People consider stranded ships on Google, TripAdvisor

The wayward barge that has been stranded on Vancouver’s Sunset Beach since a historic storm in mid-November is receiving rave reviews online.

Both TripAdvisor and Google have barge review sites, which mostly receive five-star ratings from users.

As of Friday night, the barge has an average rating of 4.9 on Google – where it is listed as “Barge Cooling Park”, a reference to another unexpectedly popular attraction in Vancouver. . Barges are on sale on TripAdvisor, earning 4/5 overall.

Most of the reviews are obviously jokes. A TripAdvisor user claims the barge has cured their Crohn’s disease. Another person gave the barge a 1/5, complaining that they waited 20 minutes with no one to pick up the goods.

Other posts sound like they might be heartfelt reviews of the barge as an impromptu attraction or an accidental public art display.

“More than we could ask for, amazing,” wrote one user. “We visited the Barge the previous evening and regret not having done so sooner. The whole experience is amazing, you walk around the corner of the breakwater, and boom, she does. there in its full glory.”

“Don’t miss the chance to visit this place,” a review on Google.

Since running aground, the barge has quickly become part of Vancouver lore, inspiring memes and social media accounts to parody and engage viewers on a daily basis.

Sentry Marine, the company that owned the stranded ship, sent a tug to remove it the day after the storm. The tug-of-war was unable to do so.

Last month, the Richmond company told CTV News it expected to try again on December 6 at the earliest, forecast to be the King Tide in Vancouver.
