Bartlett makes history in district wrestling | Sports preparation

NEBRASKA CITY – Autumn Bartlett made history Saturday, becoming the first Beatrice Lady O wrestler to qualify for the state.

Bartlett finished third in the District 1 100-pound division in the City of Nebraska. The top three finishers in each weight class qualify to participate in the state.

She said goodbye to the 2nd seed before beating the 2nd seed to advance to the semifinals. After losing 10-3 in the semifinals, she came back with a consolation semi-final win and a 9-5 win in her third-place fight to qualify.

Beatrice coach Corey Wells said it was a historic day not just for Lady O, but for the entire state of Nebraska.

“To be a part of the first NSAA Girls-approved wrestling competition and to have our First Lady O qualify at the state level is a great feeling and a great achievement,” Wells said. ‘ Wells said.

District 1 is the largest of the four Class B counties and is a very competitive district. Beatrice has had five other girls compete and Wells said the coaching staff are proud of the way they all come out and play.

Morgan Maschmann appeared briefly in her bid for the state, finishing 4th in the £114 weight class.

“Morgan showed a lot of toughness on stage,” says Wells. “She fought through the consolation table to make it to the medal round and to have a chance to advance to the state level. Unfortunately, she only made a short appearance in the third place match.”

Olivia Hatzenbuehler was able to advance to day two among the counties, but was short of medals.

“Olivia is a great example of the progress our girls have shown this year,” says Wells. “Before this year, she had no wrestling experience and in the districts her only loss was in the state qualifiers.”

Jordyn Kleveland was the first Lady O wrestler in the ring on Friday and won 10-8 over the fourth seed in the 100-pound division.

“The fact that Jordyn got that win really set the tone for our girls and we had a great first round,” Wells said.

Megan Powers and Ashton Hofeling also competed for the Lady O county title, but failed to advance to the round on Saturday.

Senior Raquel Moore is unable to wrestle in the counties due to injury, but Wells said her presence is still felt.

“Raquel is a great frontman for the other girls because she’s one of our two returning wrestlers,” Wells said. “She really helped set the tone for our girls show.”

In District 3, hosted by Gothenburg, Makena Schramm of Fairbury qualified to win the £185 division. She won both of her matches by peg.

Johnson County Center has two qualifiers for the state. Jocelyn Prado finished first in District 4’s 100-pound category and Lucie Rougean was third in the same category.

The NSAA Women’s State Wrestling Meetup will take place alongside the Men’s State Meet February 17-19 at the CHI Medical Center in Omaha.
