Baseball from World Series 1919 found inside time capsule at Tribune Tower
CHICAGO (CBS) – A piece of World Series 1919 history has just been pulled from the walls of the Tribune Tower.
The baseball was used to hit six White Sox players in a row. It is a World record that has never been broken.
Three of those hitters were banned for life for being part of the Black Sox Scandal for throwing the World Series.
The ball was inside a time capsule found by construction workers. It also contained a letter from Harvey Woodruff – the sports editor of the Tribune at the time – explaining the historical significance of the ball.
The baseball will be on display at the Chicago Sports Museum.
