‘Batman’ taken from Russia

“Batman,” predicted to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, won’t hit theaters in Russia following the country’s invasion of Ukraine last week.

A WarnerMedia spokesperson said: “Due to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, WarnerMedia is pausing the release of the feature film ‘Batman’ in Russia. We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops.” “We hope for a speedy and peaceful resolution to this tragedy.”

“The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson as Gotham’s Dark Knight, is the latest installment in the story of the Caped Crusader, one of the highest-grossing franchises in cinematic history. These superhero-based films have grossed more than $5 billion at the worldwide box office. The film will be released in most countries by Warner Bros., which, like CNN, is a division of WarnerMedia.

Warner Bros. The decision to withdraw movies from Russia is just the latest Hollywood response to Russia’s military incursion into Ukraine. The invasion was condemned by many countries around the world and sparked a series of economic sanctions that crippled the Russian economy.

Disney, the most influential movie studio in Hollywood, also made waves on Monday when it announced that it would be suspending all of its films from releasing to the country. That includes potential hits like Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” on May 5 and Pixar’s “Lightyear” on June 16.

On Monday, Netflix said it would refuse to air Russian state TV channels in the country on its service.

“The Batman” opens in the United States and many other countries around the world this weekend.
