(Reuters) – Danish biotech company Bavarian Nordic revised its annual guidance on Monday for the second time after signing supply contracts with several countries for its monkeypox vaccine. Imvanex.
Bavarian Nordic said vaccine deliveries would begin immediately, adding that it was in discussions with more countries about vaccine deliveries.
Chief Executive Officer Paul Chaplin said: “We are pleased to assist more countries in providing a vaccine as we continue our dialogue with other governments to make it available as quickly as possible. good to reduce this situation”.
Bavarian now projects 2022 revenue of between 1.4 billion and 1.5 billion Danish crowns ($202.93 million to $217.43 million), up from a previous estimate of 1.3 billion to 1.5 billion.
The company also raised its expectations for earnings before interest, tax and amortization (EBITDA) to a loss of 900 million crowns to 1.1 billion crowns, up from a loss of 1 billion to 1.2 billion crowns previously.
Smallpox in monkeys is a contagious disease that is usually mild and endemic in parts of west and central Africa. Global health officials have tracked more than 200 suspected and confirmed cases of the virus in 19 countries since the beginning of May.
The European Union announced last week that it was in talks to buy a vaccine from Bavaria Nordic. The vaccine has been officially approved by Europe for smallpox, although doctors may prescribe an off-label drug for monkeypox.
