BC COVID Update: Highest number of hospitalizations since February

After falling for the first time last week in more than a month, the number of COVID-19 patients in BC hospitals this week has risen again.

As of Thursday, there were 596 positive patients tested at hospitals in the province, of which 54 are in critical care. Both of those numbers are the highest BC levels seen in months.

According to the BC Centers for Disease Control, the number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized and critical care on Thursdays since mid-January.

Total hospitalizations reflect a “hospital census,” in which all people who test positive for COVID-19 are included, even if the illness is not the cause. that resulted in them being hospitalized.

Since the province switched to this reporting model in January, the number of patients hospitalized on Thursday reached 985 and the lowest was 255.
