BC News: Investigation into allegations of police misconduct

Due to the number of BC police departments whose officers are facing misconduct allegations stemming from a recent training course, the complaints will be investigated by an out-of-province agency.

The Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner announced the investigation on Monday, saying it had been launched to look into the actions of 19 officers from eight divisions.

“Due to the number of city agencies involved in this matter and the seriousness of the alleged misconduct, the OPCC adopted a frequently used provision in the Police Act to seek employment.” appoint one or more special Provincial Constellations to complete this investigation independently of any BC police agency,” a statement from the commissioner said, adding Manitoba’s Independent Investigations Unit would lead the investigation.

The allegations stem from a secret BC city training course on May 2. Later that month, CTV News learned that the course had been abruptly closed after several officers tried their best in a course scenario to prove they’re not cops.

Those actions allegedly included exposing genitals, defecating on another officer, infiltrating an officer using vegetables and removing feminine hygiene products, multiple sources confirmed. received with CTV News.

The OPCC said: “The actions of some city police officers while performing various physical acts and activities in a number of situations, raised concerns that their actions could be seen as potential misconduct under the Police Act,” OPCC said in Monday’s statement.

“The nature of the charges includes serious and disturbing conduct committed in front of the course supervisor and other course participants. The scope of this investigation will include police officers. the city served as a candidate as well as the city police in supervisory positions.”

The eight city police departments whose officers are believed to be involved are: Abbotsford Police Department, Vancouver Police Department, New Westminster Police Department, Delta Police Department, Surrey Police Department, Saanich Police Department, Transit Metro Vancouver Police lines and Victoria Police Department.
