SACRAMENTO – Sacramento State will be the 7th seed for the Big West Conference Beach Volleyball Tournament at San Luis Obispo. The Hornets open the tournament on Friday with the 2nd seed Bang Long Beach at 10:15 am
Seven teams from the convention will compete in a doubles knockout to determine the Big West champion. Top seed Hawai’i will say goodbye to round one, while Friday’s first-round matches include fourth seed UC Davis against fifth seed CSU Bakersfield at 9 a.m., Bang Long Beach vs. Sacramento State at 10:15 a.m. and #3 Cal Poly vs. #6 CSUN at 11:30 am
Big West currently has three nationally ranked teams, with Hawai’i ranked 9th, State of Long Beach ranked 11th and Cal Poly ranked 14th. The tournament is being played at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex in Cal Poly campus.
The tournament isn’t over, so the winner of Friday’s Sacramento State vs State Long Beach game will go on to face the winner of Cal Poly/CSUN at 2 p.m. Friday. If the Hornet falls to the Long Beach State, they will be placed in the knockout round and play at 3:15 p.m. Friday against Cal Poly or CSUN.
Saturday’s games begin at 9 a.m., and the championship game will take place on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (and 12:45 a.m. if necessary).
Winners of the Big West Tournament will receive an automatic entry to the 2022 National Collegiate Championships.
