Beech Grove Mayor Calls for Change After Texas School Shooting – WISH-TV | Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather
BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) – Dennis Buckley, the mayor of Beech Grove, wants people to urge their lawmakers to take action after Tuesday’s shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
In a statement released on Thursday, Buckley asked the public to hold elected officials accountable for what he called “senseless gun laws.”
“Once again, our nation is in shock as we mourn another senseless massacre at the hands of a young man with an assault weapon,” Buckley said. “Today, we pray for the families whose children were murdered in school, the only place where our children will be safe.”
Buckley continued:
“It has been a long time since our elected officials in Washington D.C. and the states had to do something to stop this violence. If the people we elect to office decide not to act, the public should vote for them. I don’t understand how an 18-year-old can buy weapons of mass destruction and still can’t buy cigarettes or alcohol. This must change”.
The mayor concluded by saying his heart and the hearts of those in his office go to the families in Uvalde.
