‘Belfast’ leads with 7 nominations – The Hollywood Reporter
Kenneth Branagh’s Autobiographical Film Belfast led the field of nominations for the 11th Australian Academy of Film and Television (AACTA) International Awards, announced on Friday, with seven mentions in seven film categories.
The power of the dog, Benedict Cumberbatch stars Westerners and is director Jane Campion’s first feature film in 12 years, following with six nominations, including for best picture. Other best movie nominations include Dune, Belfast, Being the Ricardos and Licorice pizza.
In the global TV categories, Heir received three nominations, including best television series and acting nods for Sarah Snook and Jeremy Strong. Other nominations for Best Drama Series are Squid Fishing Game, Mare of Easttown, The Handmaid’s Tale and Helper.
White Lotus also received three nominations, including for best comedy, with that category also including Fantastic, Sex Education, Ted Lasso, The Kominsky Method and Hacks. Nominations for the AACTA awards, determined by Australian filmmakers and content creators, also brought Nicole Kidman two nominations, including for best actress for her role as Lucille Ball. in Being a Ricardianand for best lead actress in a series for her work in Nine Perfect Strangers.
Last year, the AACTA International Awards expanded to include global television in four new categories: best television series, best comedy series, best actor and best actress Best in a feature-length movie. Usually held in Los Angeles, this year the awards show will be shown virtual January 27 on a digital platform that will still be announced.
“It is encouraging to see so many Australians nominated and appearing on the international stage. We wish them the best of luck along with all the nominees and look forward to seeing the results early in the new year,” AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella said in a statement.
