Benedict Cumberbatch on Oscar nominations for Power of the Dog, Jane Campion – The Hollywood Reporter

The power of the dog received 12 Oscar nominations on Tuesday, including one for Benedict Cumberbatch, who called the nod actor “humble” and “satisfied.”

“I am the playful type,” Cumberbatch said The Hollywood Reporter. “It has been a wonderful, humbling and very satisfying thing to be a part of this extraordinary journey. This is a conversation that started almost three years ago…talk to Jane about this extraordinary character and this truly complex character in this wonderful story and the human collision in landscape and time. this great beauty. ”

But Cumberbatch probably has the best things to say about Jane Campion, who wrote and directed the film, which also received Best Director nominations as well as Best Picture.

“It really started to think about it, when I met her and of course I was told she was coming so I read the book, I was made to review it. Pianobut I quickly turned it off when she walked in,” he said CHEAP. “It’s not that I don’t know that movie, but I just want to watch it one more time so I can figure out some details that might surprise her with my viewing skills to impress her. She is a real pleasure. She really is an intuitive witch, she just has this amazing magic about her. She is a very spiritual person. And she knows you better than seeing you, rather than checking you out. That’s who I met.”

Cumberbatch, who starred in the film alongside Jesse Plemons, Kirsten Dunst and Kodi Smit-McPhee (who also received nominations), was so humbled by the 12 nominations the film received that he said he She will receive a “t-shirt or some shoes with 12 on them”.

“[Jane’s] a poet. As opposed to writing a New York [Times] op-ed on Trumpism, here’s poetry. This really leans towards the richest visual medium. And when I first saw it… I saw that I was part of the world I was part of and it blew me away and I thought, oh my god, I’m in a movie really great,” he said.

He added: “And my three friends – we are a quartet. Jesse [Plemons] was an extraordinary person in everything he did, he was a deeply talented actor who based everything on realism, that was based on intuition and some magic of his own. but also very hardworking. It’s so tender what he does to George, it’s heartbreaking and I’m so glad he got this recognition both at the BAFTAs and the Oscars, and at Kodi. [Smit-McPhee] of course just being an extraordinary creature and playing an extraordinary character and just taking it out of the park. Kirsten [Dunst]similarly, what a journey she went through as Rose… she’s a great actress. ”

Cumberbatch is nominated alongside Javier Bardem (Being a Ricardian), Andrew Garfield (Clap, Clap… Boom!), Will Smith (King Richard) and Denzel Washington (Macbeth’s Tragedy).
