Benjamin Mendy: Man City player not guilty of rape at Chester Crown Court | Football news

Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty of rape at the direction of a judge at his trial at Chester Crown Court.

Mendy, 28, has been cleared of the rape of a 19-year-old woman at his home in Prestbury, Cheshire on 24 July last year.

Co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, 41, was also found not guilty at the judge’s direction of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against the same woman.

Judge Stephen Everett ordered the jury to clear the defendants on those charges after the prosecution presented no further evidence and a formal charge of not guilty was brought.

Both men are still on trial for multiple sex crimes charges, all of which they deny.
