BERTUCCIO WIN THE 4th BIGGEST SKY AWARD; BENEFITS OF HER CAREER

SACRAMENTO – After leading Sacramento State with a 3-2 record last week, including a three-game wipeout of Montana, the right-hander Marissa Bertuccio was honored as the Big Sky Meeting Commentator of the Week.

The Hornets won 3-0 at home against Montana, after losing a couple of games to Stanford earlier in the week. Bertuccio excellently scored 2-1 with an ERA of 0.35. In three appearances, including 20.0 turns, she allows seven hits and one earns a run with 14 attacks. The opponent only hits .101 when she is in the circle.

The honor is the fourth goal of the season for Bertuccio, who currently leads 6-2 with an ERA of 1.20 against rivals Big Sky. Additionally, it marks the eighth career weekly honor for the junior.

All three of her appearances during the week have been complete games, and Bertuccio conceded four or fewer times in each of those games. That included Montana’s one-time elimination on Saturday, a day after she allowed just two hits and a game against the Grizzlies. In fact, in the game against Montana, Bertuccio delivered just three hits and a run of more than 13 innings.

Merced, California, native opened the week as an unlucky loser against Stanford (the top team received votes in the NFCA top 25 poll). Bertuccio allowed Cardinal only four hits and earned no runs with a pair of attacks for seven rounds.

In Friday’s win over Montana, her all-game effort yielded just two hits and one run with seven sorties. Perhaps her best performance of the week came on Saturday when she beat the Grizzlies with a shot on target with five shots. Montana didn’t have a shot until the sixth inning.

Overall, Bertuccio is now 17-7 with an ERA of 1.97. She’s just the seventh Sacramento State pitcher to win 17 games in a single season in the show’s Tournament. Era I (1990-pres.).

Sacramento State (25-20, 9-3) has a huge three-game series at Weber State (32-10, 10-1) this weekend. With six games remaining in the regular season, the match divides the top two teams in the Big Sky Conference. The winner of this series will have the upper hand to win the regular season championship of the league.
