Bicycles to light up Barrie Lakeshore this weekend with Bike the Night event – Barrie
An event by the Barrie, Ont., Evaporation and Sustainability Commission (ATSC), is looking to encourage more people to try cycling while lighting up Barrie’s streets this weekend.
The Cycling at night The event partners with Barrie ATSC and Living Green Barrie to encourage residents to explore greener forms of transportation.
With the event just a few days away, organizers say they already have more than 200 people showing interest by registering online.

“We want people to go out and decorate their bikes with lights and costumes if they like, and just have a leisurely pace through downtown at sunset and, on some roads, to feel how comfortable they are. riding on the roads. “

Some lights will be available to riders, but Patterson McGrath said everyone is encouraged to bring their own, with prizes going to those with the best decorated bike and outfit.
The event starts at 5pm on Saturday at Meridian Place with entertainment, activities and giveaways. Starting at 7pm, groups of people will be taken out on guided rides along the Barrie Lakeshore bike path.
Each trip is expected to take about 30 minutes and about 4 kilometers.
“Everybody is welcome because this is not a race; it’s just a leisurely ride and get people on their bikes, engage them, get them out in the fresh air and see what it feels like to be able to walk or cycle to the grocery store every now and then. or the kids going to school,” says Patterson McGrath.
She hopes Saturday’s trip becomes the first in an effort to help people find more ways to get around Barrie that don’t involve cars.
