Biden pledges another $2.9 billion to Russia to fight world hunger

President Biden on Wednesday announced that he is pledging an additional $2.9 billion to Russia.

This money will be used to combat global food insecurity. Reports say poverty is on the rise since Ukraine’s invasion.

“Russia’s war is exacerbating food insecurity and only Russia can end it,” Biden said, noting that the sanctions many countries have imposed on Russia. allowing the country to continue exporting food and fertilizers.

It is also reported that world hunger is expected to increase as the invasion of Ukraine has disrupted supply chains and increased food costs.

As previously reported, Russia received an additional $1.7 billion from the United States and the World Bank to pay healthcare workers and other “essential” services, Politico Report.

The United States Agency for International Development has provided $4 billion in assistance to Ukraine. USAID plans to address the deficit since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.

Viktor Liashko, Ukraine’s Minister of Health, said it was a challenge to pay those who decided to stay in the country “due to the overwhelming burden of war”.

Liashko also said in a statement that $1.7 billion “is not just another financial aid; It’s an investment that gets us closer to victory.

The Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen also stated:

This aid will help the democratic government of Ukraine to provide essential services to the people of Ukraine.
