Monique and Derek’s romance caught the attention of Love after lockdown viewers due to their size difference, with the star being an oversized woman and Derek shorter than her and slimmer. However, social media and Derek’s family noticed Monique’s weight, prompting the reality TV star to speak out about being bullied online.
Monique Reacts to Funny Dineva & Fat-Shaming Trolls
Earlier this week, Monique hit back at popular vlogger Funky Dineva, who criticized her weight and questioned whether Derek was really attracted to her in the caption of his Instagram post. . Despite the negative comments, Monique emphasized that she and Derek are happy together in a comment to the vlogger—which is the most important thing.
After speaking with Dineva, the reality star posted a joint statement to online bullies protesting her weight.
The fact that I have been bullied and mocked ONLINE LIVE for the past 4 days WITHOUT PROVEN is insane to me. I don’t understand why people are so obsessed with my weight and my relationship with Derek. You all go on the internet and pretend to care about mental health and “protect” black women and all I see on these blogs are black men and women in comments that bully another black woman about her weight. This show was filmed a few months ago. Derek and I have been together for almost 3 years now! He loves it here. We live in our truth. Love is love
Along with criticism from strangers on social media, Monique also faced negative comments from two of Derek’s sisters. On the show, the older sister was also embarrassed about her appearance questioning how long they would last. According to the National Library of Medicine, losing fat is well-documented and can even cause you to gain weight.
Despite facing negativity and judgment, Monique remains active on social media and on the show.
