Bill Gates jokes that Internet Explorer died because Microsoft ‘out of chips’ | Science & Technology News

Bill Gates mocked the COVID-19 conspiracy theorists with a quip that the demise of Internet Explorer was caused by Microsoft “running out of chips”.

The billionaire responded to a Twitter joke about final goodbye to web browsing has been issued for computer hard drives since 1995.

Although not yet 30 years old, the company decided to officially “retire” from the world wide web supremo on Wednesday.

The move sparked interest on social media, including the American comedy series The Daily Show, which posted a post about Internet Explorer’s journey on that good night: “Wow: , Bill Gates encouraged everyone to get vaccinated, and a year later Internet Explorer died.” A surprising situation ??? “

The joke is clearly a reference to the strange conspiracy theories that have swirled around Gates during the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccinations.

Mr. Gates, who notably did not post a tribute to Internet Explorer on the solemn day, responded with a wise answer of his own.

Reposting The Daily Show’s tweet, he added: “I guess we’ve run out of microchips at last.”

Internet Explorer’s shutdown after 27 long years comes after its use has dropped to just a fraction of what it used to be.

Anyone currently trying to use the desktop app will find it disabled and unsupported and will automatically be redirected to the Microsoft Edge browser.
