MATCH –
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said Tuesday he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is showing mild symptoms.
Through Twitter, the billionaire philanthropist said he will be isolated until he is healthy again.
“I am fortunate to be immunized and healthy, and to have access to excellent medical care and testing,” Gates wrote.
The Seattle-based Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is the most influential private foundation in the world, with approximately $65 billion in assets.
Bill Gates has been a strong proponent of pandemic mitigation measures, especially in terms of providing access to vaccines and medicines to poorer countries. The Gates Foundation in October said it would spend $120 million to increase access to generic versions of drugmaker Merck’s COVID-19 pill for lower-income countries.
