BJP Delegation Meets Governor of Bengal, Seeks Action Against CM Mamata For ‘Jihadi’ Comments


A 10-member delegation of the Bengal BJP led by opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari met with Governor of West Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankhar, seeking action against Minister Mamata Banerjee after she called for “jihad”. against the saffron party at a public gathering in Asansol.

After meeting with the Governor, Subhendu Adhikari said, “We are very concerned about what the Chief said yesterday in a public meeting. We seek the Governor’s intervention on it.”

Meanwhile, the Governor of West Bengal has called on Mamata Banerjee to withdraw this most regrettable statement.

Taking to Twitter, Governor Dhankhar said, “the claim has no place in a society governed by the rule of law, and is least expected from a constitutional oath to follow it. Except. strongly for this, wrote to CM to withdraw the statement and respond.”

In another tweet, he said that “declaring ‘Jihad’ against a political party is constitutional anarchy and the decline of democracy cannot be disputed. Certainly wiser advice. will prevail & Hon’ble CM will regretfully withdraw its statement at the earliest. Such a stern stance is contrary to democracy.”

Mamata Banerjee made a comment yesterday in which she called for “jihad” against the saffron party. She made the remarks at a public rally in Asansol.

During her public speech video in Asansol on Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee can be heard saying in Bangla, “July 21 is near and you know it’s Shaheed Dibas. This is the day of declaring ‘jihad’ against BJP again.”

Mamata Banerjee is referring to Martyrs’ Day (Shaheed Dibas) on July 21. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) holds a large rally on July 21 every year to commemorate the 1993 Kolkata shooting as Day by Martys.

“For the past two years, we have been unable to organize demonstrations due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Mamata Banerjee, urging local TMC MLAs and Asansol residents to join the rally. July 21.
