With the side effect of technology at the heart of the hit series Black mirrorcreator Charlie Brooker decided to test the much-discussed Artificial Intelligence technology for himself.
In a recent interview with Empire magazine, the TV writer said he actually “played around with ChatGPT a bit” while writing the latest installment of the anthology series.
“The first thing I did was type ‘create’ Black mirror Brooker talks about the scripting capabilities of this technology. “All it does is look up all the summaries of Black mirror files and arrange them together. Then, if you dig a little deeper, you’ll say, ‘Oh, there really isn’t any real originality here.’ Its [1970s impressionist] Mike Yarwood – has a thematic reference.
The Netflix show, which was confirmed last week to have five episodes in its upcoming sixth season, reveals how the use of modern technology can have adverse effects on humanity, with each episode based on a different different realities.
While Brooker’s experimentation with AI technology didn’t go as planned, he noted that there are some takeaways to help him as he plans the show’s upcoming season.
“I know I’ve written a lot of episodes where someone says, ‘Oh, I was at the computer the whole time,'” he explains. “So I thought, ‘I’ll just say whatever makes sense of what I think Black mirror episode is.’”
The Emmy-winning writer added: “There’s no point in hosting an anthology show if you can’t break your own rules. Just a cool and pleasant splash of water in the face.”
Brooker has previously said that he has “expanded the parameters” of what to expect from a Black mirror episode in season six, scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 15.
