BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors says $6 million mansion for parties and office space

Black Lives Matter (BLM) Co-Founder Patrisse Cullors Last month it faced a massive backlash when it was reported that the organization had “secretly” bought a lavish mansion in LA for a whopping $6 million. The house purchased in 2020 has six bedrooms and bathrooms, a swimming pool, a basement and office space.

On Monday, the 38-year-old told the AP news agency she hosted her son’s birthday party and a gathering to celebrate President Biden’s inauguration. However, it is intended to serve as a meeting venue and campus for the BLM. She also denied rumors she lived at this property or used it for profit in her conversation with AP.

“We looked at commercial buildings, we looked at homes, and we found this truly amazing space to be a sweet spot between commercial and residential. There’s office space… parking, yes – yes, a house on the premises – but [it] There is also a sound stage. Where you can play podcasts…live events in the backyard. ”

Patrisse Cullors refused to use BLM donations for personal expenses

Cullors, who declined to receive a steady salary from the organization, admitted to receiving a one-time consulting fee of $120,000. She said the story that she had received “millions” of donations to support the movement was untrue.

“The idea that (the fund) received millions of dollars and then I hid those dollars in my bank account is completely wrong,” she said. “It is a false story. It has affected me personally and professionally that people will accuse me of stealing from black people. “

In January 2021, Cullors announced she was seeking refuge at the property after receiving threats about her life, allegedly. During that time, he hosted an inaugural party in Biden for about 15 people. Guests included members of the local BLM chapter and prominent supporters of the organization. Cullors also hosted a private birthday party for her son at the residence in March 2021. She said she plans to pay a rental fee to BLM. BLM confirmed that it billed Cullors for the birthday party and reviewed its policies to prevent such use.

Last year, Cullors stepped down as chief executive of BLM after six years with the organization.
