Booker: Sun has no ‘hierarchy’ even with KD . addition
Starring Kevin Durant, the Phoenix Suns now have a “big trio” of their own. In the NBA’s attempt to compete in the NBA’s stacked Western Conference, that may be what the Suns will need to make it to a major playoff, but star power sometimes comes with an ego of star.
However, Devin Booker says that won’t be an issue in Phoenix. He, Chris Paul, Durant and the rest of the organization will be able to get along because they all bring something different to the Suns.
“We don’t have a hierarchy,” Booker recently explained GAME. “That’s the point of it. You have Chris Paul, one of the greatest leaders of all time. You have coach Monty. [Williams]you have [general manager] James Jones. We have people with the same plans – I think we all have different leadership styles, and the great thing about leadership is that it comes in many different forms. And I think all of our games, and our mindset, complement each other very well.”
Of course, it’s hard for a player as talented as Durant not to play add-on basketball. He makes everyone around him better just by stepping on the pitch, but he has the ability to score goals to take over games when needed. It’s something he’s done everywhere he goes in the NBA, but he also has championship experience from his time with the Golden State Warriors.
Booker, Paul, and the Suns didn’t win a ring, but they did take on the Milwaukee Bucks a few seasons ago in the NBA Finals. According to Booker, even the experience of reaching the Finals and losing was important, because it gave the team a taste of the top of the mountain.
Booker explains: “Once you have a taste of the Finals experience and have that in your hands, that’s all you want. “We have a goal; we know it won’t be easy, but we feel we have the talent, we have the mindset and everything we need right here in this gym.”
Speaking of the gym, Durant is yet to play against the Suns as he recovers from the MCL injury he sustained on January 8, but ESPN reports that he’s “getting closer to a return every day.” .”
