Boston man uses mattress to save neighbor from house fire
A Boston woman and her two children are safe after a neighbor helped them escape a burning house in the city’s Roslindale neighborhood. . and raised the alarm three times. The fire is getting too close to us.’ And when I did that, they just dropped the kids. “Saintjean got the kids down and then their mother was able to jump to safety.” Very brave. Thinking fast to realize there’s a mattress.” , said BFD spokesman Brian Alkins. “Neighbors helping neighbors makes our job a lot easier.” Alkins said the twin flames were extinguished within 30 minutes. According to Alkins, two firefighters were taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries and are doing well. The Massachusetts Red Cross is helping displaced people find housing. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Boston Fire Department officials said the fire started shortly after 12 a.m. Saturday on the right side of 10-12 Delford St. and has grown to three levels of alarm.
Clidfod Saintjean, who lives next door to the apartment, said he took action as soon as he heard the fire alarm. He then noticed a neighbor and her two children trapped on the second floor and decided to use his mattress to help bring them to safety.
“I put my mattress in the back and put it out the window, and I told them to jump on the mattress,” says Saintjean. “But they refused (at first). I said to them: ‘Come on, come on. The fire is getting too close to us.’ And when I did that, they just released the kids.”
Saintjean helped the children down and their mother was able to jump to safety.
BFD spokesman Brian Alkins said: “Very heroic. “Neighbors helping neighbors makes our job so much easier.”
Alkins said the duplex fire was extinguished within 30 minutes. Two firefighters were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries and are doing well, according to Alkins.
In total, five adults and four children were displaced by the fire, causing an estimated $1 million in damage. The Massachusetts Red Cross is helping displaced people find housing.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
