Bowen Yang is the Chinese ball on ‘Saturday Night Live’ Cold Open – The Hollywood Reporter
Bowen Yang appeared as the Chinese hot air balloon on Saturday Night Liveopen cold.
On the February 4 episode, Yang starred alongside Chloe Fineman and Kenan Thompson, who recreated MSNBC’s Report Katy Turincluding an interview with the crashed device itself.
After interviewing Thompson’s General William Hamilton about how they shot down the balloon, Fineman’s Tur turned everything to the now infamous object.
“Well, I’m sorry you’re in the water, but thank you for talking to us,” Fineman told Yang. “I entertained people for four days, then got shot by Biden! I can’t believe I’m Joe’s Osama,” he replied. “I have to ask, what are you doing flying over Montana?” she asked him. “I love the show gold stone, so I’m just there. It looks like heir but outside. So what?”
Fineman then went on to say that she was surprised that the balloon was still hovering because experts said it was the size of three buses.
“Okay, oh. I am one balloon, so that’s my body,” Yang replied, offended. “How would you like it if someone measured your width on the bus? Sorry, I’m not ready for the camera yet.”
Balloon went on to explain that it didn’t understand why people were so freaked out by the idea of being monitored.
“Everybody is under constant surveillance, but always, shoot the balloon and never unplug Alexa,” Yang said. “If you care a lot about your data, what is it all about keeping your bank passwords in the Notes app? You send your literal DNA to a company to find out if you’re 10% French, but je suis is just a balloon.
The chilling opening marks a swift turn for the late-night sketch comedy series. Earlier on Saturday, the US military shot down a Chinese spy balloon over the Atlantic Ocean off the South China Sea. Hot air balloons were first spotted in Montana earlier in the week and have traveled across the country.
Pedro Pascal hosts the show, with Coldplay as musical guest.
