Bristol Police identify several vehicles participating in a ‘street takeover’ fad
BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) – A nationwide fad involving illegal street racing arrived in Bristol on Friday.
According to police, a “street takeover” occurred on June 17 between Farmington and Stafford Avenue.
They said hundreds of vehicles blocked an intersection, which was also crowded with people.
Eyewitnesses watched drivers demonstrate donuts and float them down the road.
Police have described “street takeovers” as a national trend where illegal street racers block roads and perform stunts while viewers record videos.
Diana Riera said, “I think its kids you know, I think they’re bored, and summer is coming and it could be the start of something new.”
Riera lives just a few steps from the intersection where it all happened.
Bristol Police released video of a “street takeover” that occurred on June 17.
“If its kids don’t look like they’re tearing up your lawn, you know.. the danger is it. I mean they can flip. They can hurt themselves,” she said. “I’ve been here for about four years or so and we’ve never had an incident. Normally at that hour, it’s quiet in this neighborhood. “
Bristol Police said they are actively investigating the incident and have identified several vehicles via video surveillance.
