Browns COVID-19 roster: Some players affected ahead of Saturday vs. Raiders

The Browns will be without at least four starters for their game against the Raiders on Saturday.

The Cleveland brand is the latest to be hit hard by the NFL’s COVID-19 outbreak. After the league recorded its highest number of positive cases since 2020 on Monday, the Browns learned on Tuesday that they would be playing without stars like the widely received Jarvis Landry and Austin Hooper ending tight push.

As the announcement comes about four days before the Browns are scheduled to host the Raiders, the players on today’s roster likely won’t be available for the AFC game. In addition to Landry and Hooper, players who tested positive on Tuesday included keeper Drew Forbes, right guard Wyatt Teller, left saver Jedrick Wills and full-back Takk McKinley.

The Browns will most likely hold the rest of the week’s meetings, according to The Associated Press. As part of protocol, all players, coaches and senior staff are required to wear masks indoors and are tested daily. The team also closed practice late to reporters on Tuesday afternoon.

As according to the league’s COVID-19 protocol For vaccinated players, individuals who test positive and are asymptomatic will be isolated and contact tracing will be implemented promptly. The positive individual will be allowed to return to duty after two negative tests at least 24 hours apart.

Otherwise, unvaccinated players who test positive will be quarantined for a period of 10 days and will then be allowed to return to duty if asymptomatic. They are also subject to a five-day quarantine period if they come into close contact with an infected person.

The Browns will be looking to replace the loss of several key players as they prepare to face the Raiders. Victory over Las Vegas could give the Browns a chance to lead the AFC North. However, a loss to the Raiders would put the Browns in a difficult position to reach the knockout stages before they are scheduled to face the Packers on Christmas Day.

While the Browns will most likely take on the Raiders without the five main players, the organization will release updates on the state of the players as they go through the protocols.
