Brownsburg family honors daughter through annual toy drive for Riley Hospital

INDIANAPOLIS – August 28, 2015 is Charlotte Grace Reuzenaar’s birthday.

“I call her goofy when she’s with us because she’s a little fighter, so she’s a little sassy,” said Charlotte’s mother, Tiffany Reuzenaar.

Charlotte was born with Triplet syndrome, which means she has a third complete set of chromosomes. She lived for 9 days and was cared for at Riley Children’s Hospital.

“[The doctor said] he has never seen [a baby with Triploidy] make it limited, let alone nine days. So she’s a little miracle,” said Reuzenaar.

In 2016, Tiffany and her husband Justin wanted to find a way to celebrate Charlotte’s birthday and honor their daughter. They started an annual toy drive to benefit Riley Cheer Guild. The nonprofit works to provide comfort and encouragement to the patients at Riley Children’s Hospital through a variety of programs, including the Toy Room.

“I’ve always said that since [Charlotte’s] It’s not here for us to spoil, it’s the next best thing to be able to give to the kids at Riley’s,” said Reuzenaar. I can make it very meaningful for her birthday. honor her. “

This year is Toy Drive’s seventh birthday for Riley celebrated by the Brownsburg family, including 5-year-old sister Harper. With the help of donations from family, friends, and the community, 1,052 items and $500 were given to the Riley Cheer Guild.

Items are filled with items in Reuzenaar’s living room, and Tiffany says she had to stand on a ladder to be able to take these pictures. The money raised filled Tiffany and Justin’s car.

“[Seeing it all] can be overwhelming. It’s just a reminder of all the support Justin and I have and Harper, and you know, absolute gratitude for all that everyone has given,” said Reuzenaar. Just know that you are bringing a little joy to those people who are children in the hospital. “

Harper can help parents shop for toys.

“She loved it. She had to learn to share in a unique way… in fact, when we did our first clearance shopping, oh my god she loved packing things up,” said Reuzenaar.

The family plans to continue making the toy drive every year. You can connect with them through their Facebook page.

The Riley Cheer Guild always accepts donations, but there are certain guidelines and the sending of donations must be scheduled in advance. For more information about donating, click here.
