Bruce Arians rips participant flagged Tom Brady for unsportsmanlike behavior: ‘Totally unexpected’

Bruce Arians is throwing flags to challenge Shawn Hochuli.

Bloody Tom Brady earned his first non-sporting behavior penalty in the Buccaneers’ NFC division loss to the Rams on Sunday, leaving the Tampa Bay coach feeling upset.

Speaking on his Buccaneers Radio Network show, Arians set the flag for Hochuli.

“Absolutely not surprising,” said Arians. “I don’t think any of the other referees in the tournament will throw the flag.”

THAN: Brady on what might motivate him to retire

While this can often be filed under “the coach defends his players”, Arians may be right: Hochuli has been fired for appearing to have a tendency to steal attention during matches where he is not a player. he’s in charge, which is no exception with Sunday’s Buccaneers-Rams game.

Hochuli explained the position on Brady after the match.

“He hit me in the face with an aggressive attitude and used abusive language,” Hochuli said.

Brady, the notorious trash talker, has never been flagged for mockery or unsportsmanlike behavior before in his career, even in 2021 as the league focuses on mocking calls. He said that he did not curse Hochuli in front of the flag.

Bucs QB took up the matter with officials who missed an allegedly crude passerby call when Rams passer Von Miller hit Brady in the chin with his helmet. Hochuli said the call was not to the point of causing trouble for passersby.

A sports rule reminder: Usually, when you know a referrer’s name, that’s never a good thing.
