BSA Gold Star revealed to be a classic but still modern motorcycle

Old British motorcycle manufacturer BSA is making an epic comeback with a new retro model called the Gold Star. It’s meant to be reminiscent of the past, but uses modern technology for better performance and – hopefully – modern reliability.

The BSA Gold Star is powered by a 652cc single-cylinder engine that makes 45 horsepower and 41 pound-feet of torque. It’s a modern DOHC design and is liquid cooled. You switch to a five-speed transmission and brake handled by Brembo hardware. BSA offers a 320 mm disc at the front with a twin piston caliper and a 255 mm disc at the rear with a single piston caliper. And yes, it has ABS.

The total weight of the car is 470 pounds. It is located on Pirelli ghost Sports tires and twin shock absorbers handle the damping. The BSA estimates it will return about 71 mpg.

Of course, one of the more appealing parts of this bike is its form. There’s a bunch of chrome all over the place, on the fuel tank, side caps and fenders. You get classic analog instruments that also have a small LCD display. Available color including Insignia Red, Dawn Silver, Midnight Black, Highlands Green and Sheen Silver.

Availability has yet to be announced, so we’re not sure if it’ll be sold in the US. We also don’t know what its price will be if it succeeds. Basically, stay tuned.
