Budget 2022 critical moment for NDP-Freedom Pact
OTTAWA – The NDP’s finance spokesman said his party is watching to see that spending commitments made in the deal with the Liberals are honored by the government in this week’s federal budget.
Daniel Blaikie says the budget is the first key moment for a confidence deal with the Liberal Party, which includes some of the NDP’s priorities.
He said the New Democrats want to see key elements of the deal, such as a $500 one-time deposit into the Canada Housing Benefit, and more funding for dental care.
The NDP is also on the lookout for more funding for Indigenous housing, energy efficiency in the home and moving towards surcharge taxing on the profits of banks and insurers in the bank. book, which is expected to be recorded on Thursday.
Jagmeet Singh’s party has agreed to support the Liberal Party to stay in power until 2025 with a supply deal and confidently includes support for the Liberal budget.
Blaikie said the NDP was disappointed that there were no additional revenue-enhancing and tax equity measures in the pact.
