Bullets enter Tay Mobile’s family home after New Year’s Eve gunshots | Alabama Mobile County News

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Despite the Mobile Police’s stern warning – the new year is not without celebratory gunfire. A West Mobile family discovered it first – after a bullet went through their roof. It happened in the 8100 block of Tanner Williams Road.

“There was a lot of gunfire before midnight. You could be here from afar. I didn’t make it in time for 12. So I was in bed. Everyone was in bed,” Mercedes Janes recalls.

An ordinary New Year’s Eve for Mercedes and her family quickly spirals into a frenzy four minutes after midnight.

“It looked like someone was banging on my door. And I guess because I was fast asleep I didn’t realize that it was gunfire. I went to open the door and no one was there so I closed the door,” Mercedes said.

Her sister, just down the hall, also heard. You can hear their conversation on the children’s screen:

“Oh, maybe it’s just a cat or something. – But did someone knock on your door? – I feel like someone’s knocking on my door.”

Moments later, her sister discovered a hole in the ceiling of the mobile home’s lobby and a golden bullet in the floor.

“This is the bullet hole where it got in. You can hear on the screen that baby he’s getting in. And then he’s down and it looks like there’s a door here,” Mercedes said as she showed us. .

Her two children were sleeping not far away. If you listen to child monitors, you can be here exactly when the bullet entered the house.

“It could have killed one of my children. That was my biggest fear. I was very angry, but very alarmed right away because so many people would come through my roof? It pointless to me. I don’t understand that,” said Mercedes.

Mercedes called 911. Mobile Police are currently investigating, but she still fears it could happen again and has the following message:

“It’s not a political message. If you’re a connoisseur, be a responsible gun owner. And it’s as simple as that. I’m a gun owner, but I use it in law. range. And if it happens to it, I Mercedes said, “I’m not going to celebrate shooting into the air or to the ground because this is exactly what could happen. Your stray bullet might hit someone. It can hit someone’s house. It can kill someone.”
