Can pain caused by Chemo be cured?


Dr. Tiwari says that cancer patients suffer from severe pain. Not only the disease, but the cancer treatment process also causes unbearable pain.

One such type of pain is chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain (CINP), which is one of the most common clinical complications associated with the use of anticancer drugs. This is a significant dose-limiting and treatment-limiting side effect.

CINP occurs in nearly 68.1 percent of cancer patients receiving chemotherapy drugs.

The therapeutic glory of TRPV1 has been recognized in clinics, which provide a promising insight into the treatment of pain.

According to him, the adverse effects associated with some antagonists have led scientists to RNA interference (RNAi), a tool to suppress gene expression.

TRPV1 is widely present in neurons and it has been reported that higher expression TRPV1 plays an important role in chemotherapy-induced pain.

This unrelenting pain responds poorly to conventional pain relievers and even opioids. Existing CINP treatments have some serious side effects.

This is the question posed when scientists ventured into the TRPV1 siRNA formula.

To solve this problem, Dr. Nimisha Verma and Dr. Vinod Tiwari have come up with a new solution to this problem through genetic engineering and nanotechnology.

According to them, the study involved blocking the expression of the TRPV1 receptor through a small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecule.

The new siRNA formulation proposed by ongoing research has shown rapid pain control with no side effects, which would be very effective for patients.
