Canada adds abortion crime to ‘unjust’ sentencing list
OTTAWA –
People who have been convicted of certain indecent and anti-abortion crimes that are no longer on the books can now have those convictions expunged.
The list of “historical injustices” is being expanded to include a range of allegations that date back to 1892 and largely target the LGBTQ community and women.
The government says police have historically used certain indecent charges to target and raid bathhouses, LGBTQ nightclubs and swingers clubs.
A number of laws have now been repealed targeting women who “manipulate themselves” and seek abortions and target abortion providers.
People can apply to the Parole Board to have their convictions cleared of these crimes, and family members or trustees can apply on behalf of those who have died.
The RCMP’s National Crime Records Archive lists more than 18,500 records related to bad housing, indecent conduct and crimes related to abortion on the new list.
Remember when the federation removed ‘unfair’ convictions against LGBTQ2S+ ppl under the new law in 2018? The new batch has just been announced via OiC.
They involved abortion, obscene homes and indecent offenses involving bathhouses, nightclubs, and swingers clubs. Is the application process.
