The move comes after the citizens, currently held in camps for ISIL family members in Syria, challenged Ottawa in court.

Canada is Prepare to return home 23 of its citizens are currently being held in camps for ISIL family members (ISIS) in northeastern Syria, according to officials and lawyers representing the citizens.

The repatriation, which represents the largest group of ISIL family members repatriated to Canada at once, was identified in two actions on Friday.

First, the State Department said it had decided to repatriate six Canadian women and 13 infants who are living in locked-down camps.

Later, a federal court ruled that the four men seeking repatriation in that group must also be sent back to Canada.

Attorney Barbara Jackman, who represents one of the men, said: “I’ve spoken to the parents and they’re really happy.

In Friday’s ruling, federal judge Henry Brown directed Ottawa to request the men’s repatriation as soon as possible and provide them with passports or emergency travel documents.

It is unclear when the 23 individuals will be repatriated or if they will face any legal consequences for their alleged links to ISIL.

At the time, Human Rights Watch said the Canadians in the camps included eight men, 13 women and 26 children.

In 2020, Ottawa allowed a 5-year-old orphan girl to return from Syria after her uncle sued the Canadian government.

Last October, Canada bring back two women and two children from the camps.

Among the men about to be repatriated following the most recent ruling is Jack Letts, an Anglo-Canadian dual citizen whose British citizenship is believed to have been revoked in 2019.
